This project originated out of my concern for the mental well-being of young people, specifically the self-esteem of young girls, in the wake of the 2016 Presidential election. Of course, the magnitude and complexity of this problem doesn't have a single solution but I thought about the effect practicing mindfulness can have on an individual level. Mindfulness is a life skill that’s worth learning and cultivating and that the strength of mind it brings can serve as an effective buffer between an adolescent girl and negative forces, both internal and external. Mindfulness is simple but not necessarily easy, so I wrote and designed this book as approachable and relatable as possible. Throughout the project, I strove to find the best ways to visualize the ambiguous concepts I was presenting.
